Through his tireless coca leaf crusade, Bolivian President Evo Morales pushed for the country’s special exemption from the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, which since 2013 has recognized the citizen’s of the state’s domestic right to chew on the leaf, but the head of state still continues to call for the consumption, cultivation and de-stigimitization of this leaf, which is the core ingredient used to manufacture cocaine.
