White House spokesperson, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has shared the views expressed by the White House on the Turkish steel and aluminium tariffs, as well as the US sanctions imposed on Turkey because of the imprisonment of Andrew Bunson.
Below are some of her noteworthy quotes on the matter where she makes a firm stand that the US will not lift the sanctions, even if detained American pastor, Andrew Bunson, is released.
“The president’s been clear about the steel and aluminium industries, steel, particularly, in this case; that those are industries that must be protected. We must have the ability to reach certain levels of manufacturing those products here in the United States for the purposes of national security.” – Sarah Sanders, Xinhuanet, 16 August 2018
“The tariffs that the United States placed on Turkey were out of national security interests, theirs are out of retaliation.” – Sarah Sanders, Xinhuanet, 16 August 2018
“We feel that Turkey and specifically President Erdogan have treated Pastor Brunson … very unfairly, very badly… It’s something that we won’t forget in the administration.” – Sarah Sanders, Xinhuanet, 16 August 2018
“The tariffs that are in place on steel would not be removed with the release of Pastor Brunson. The tariffs are specific to national security. The sanctions, however, that have been placed on Turkey are specific to Pastor Brunson and others that we feel are being held unfairly and we would consider that at that point.” – Sarah Sanders, Sputik News, 15 August 2018
